Google Analytics – The Basics
Google Analytics Reports
When you click into your report you will see different metrics to assist you in analyzing your data.
- Number of visits
- Bounce Rate
- Pageviews
- Average time on site
- Page/visits
- % new visits
You can get a report that will trend data over time allowing you to compare last month to the current month.
Traffic sources are defined by 4 different categories;
- Direct traffic
- Referring traffic
- Search engine Traffic
- Other
Keyword Information Report
You will see which keywords are driving traffic to your site and how long they stayed on your site for each keyword. If the bounce rate indicates that visitors left immediately you can optimize that page for the information the visitor expected to find on your page as indicated by the keyword they used. You get data of how many people are entering and from where they are coming plus how long they are staying.
Top 10 Landing Page Report
If you are running a PPC campaign these reports help to identify problems that are costing you money so you can stop or fix your campaign. Perhaps you are driving traffic to the wrong landing page so you need to edit your page to more relevant data for your keywords or have a stronger call to action.
Focus on Outcome
Examples of your goals:
- # of user registrationd or sign-ups
- # of downloads
- # of views of key pages on your site
- Any act that is important for your business model
